Sorry. We know the summer has hardly been and gone, but we've already had the longest day, the nights are drawing in, and soon, facilities managers all over the country will be thinking about turning their heating pumps back on - which means now's the time to make sure they are as efficient as they can be.

You’ve probably heard before that 95% of a pump’s running cost is energy. And that, only 1% of the capital cost is the purchase price and 4% is applied to maintenance. So, if you can make savings in energy or maintenance now, when the next cold winter comes, it won’t send too many chills through your budget.

The difference in efficiency between an old pump and one installed with the latest technology can be a staggering 15%, yet up to 60% of pumps in plant rooms pumping applications are actually obsolete – wasting significant amounts of energy and making it almost impossible to source OE spare parts for when failure is imminent.

So, you can wait until the thermometer drops to push the ‘ON’ button and hope for the best. Or you can plan ahead now – we know which option we would choose.

Knowledge is power

Before you can decide how to make your system more efficient, you need a comprehensive audit that looks at your pumps, tests their performance, logs data to identify current energy usage and calculates payback periods for replacement pumps.

An extensive audit will also identify the highest and lowest energy users based on operating hours, as well as usage and motor size, allowing you to make an informed decision on which ones to deal with first.

Of course, for an unbiased result and neutral advice, you need a solution-neutral advisor – just like ERIKS.

ERIKS will not only provide a neutral solution – repair, replace or upgrade – but are also British Pump Manufacturers’ Association CPSA (Certified Pump System Auditor Scheme). Meaning you’ll get comprehensive and accurate results, with trustworthy advice.

Pimp that pump

We must stress that, replacing an out-of-date, inefficient or obsolete pump is not always a straight swap. The footprint of the new model maybe wildly different, and pipework may need redesigning, which may not always be possible. And if it is, the presence of asbestos may even make it too expensive to contemplate.

If that is the case, ERIKS are on hand to offer specialist advice and assistance with improving your existing pump design, whether that be a motor upgrade, pump refurbishment, reverse engineering of spare components, or a different control philosophy.

Whatever the audit reveals, rest assured that ERIKS has a solution to minimise energy usage, maximise the efficiency of your pumping systems, and save on maintenance costs - ensuring that when you hit the 'ON' button, your pumps won't let you down.
